Placement Testing on Blackboard

Blackboard is a Web-based software tool which supports and facilitates education at Hood for all courses. The Blackboard system will be used to allow new incoming freshmen and transfer students a common interface for taking placement tests at Hood. Students who are required to take all or some of the placement tests, will receive a Blackboard User Name and Password from the Hood College Admissions Office. If you have not received your Blackboard User Name and Password or require assistance with logging onto the Blackboard system please contact placement@hood.edu.

Once you have your Blackboard account and prior to logging in to take your placement test. You may want to review the criteria for the different Hood placement tests via our placement information site at http://www.hood.edu/placement/ .

To access Blackboard and begin taking any required placement tests, please follow the instructions listed below:

5. If you have logged on correctly, you are now at the "My Institution Page". Feel free to explore this page as you would any Web site. Any placement test course sites for which you are registered, will be listed on the right hand side of the page with a link in the "My Courses" box.  Click on the link for the placement test you need to take.

* Not all students will see the English Composition Placement Test course site in their list as they may not be required to take this assessment.

6. Once you have linked to a placement test course site you can begin to explore the information posted regarding the test that you will need to take and or take the test. Please follow all on screen instructions carefully before taking each test.

If you have questions, a "Support" link has been provided in each placement test site, that will guide you to the e-mail of the person at Hood who is responsible for answering questions for that particular test. You may have questions prior to or after taking your test and the Support link will allow you access to the information you may need beyond the on-screen instructions.

Hood strongly encourages all new students to take their assigned placement tests one week in advance of your selected orientation date. This will ensure that Hood's Academic Services Staff has had an adequate amount of time to provide your assigned faculty advisor the information necessary to assist you with course registration for your first semester at Hood.

7. After you have completed your tests please, logout by selecting the button at the top of the screen. Logging out will terminate your active session on Blackboard, but you may log on to the system at any time to take any remaining test that may still need to be taken prior to your selected Orientation date.

*If you have any questions about using the Blackboard system for placement testing, please contact the Instructional Technology Office via e-mail at bbadmin@hood.edu
